Well done! Your knowledge of rock history is unimpeachable... or you got damn lucky in your guesses. All you will receive a free entry pass to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame with a personal escort from Schliemann himself. Redeemable until Oct 31, 2009.

The Awards Ceremony

In third place, with a stunning perfecto in the quiz and only a UK release date separating him from a -3 bonus, the King of Rock himself...

Paucle

Your prize is a dogeared paperback of Nick Hornsby's "High Fidelity" and two tickets to "Mamma Mia."

In second place, going negative with a -3 on the bonus, the Jesus of cool...

ej!fan

You win a bootleg copy of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and the collected poetry of Jim Morrison. Use them wisely.

and, finally, finishing with an absolute perfecto of -3, nailing the dates in the bonus down to the month, in a debut performance no less, the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla...

kharizma!!!!

To you goes the ultimate prize, a day's worth of time in Abbey Road Studios to record your own rock masterpiece. Just mention the CHRONOLOGY IV quiz at the door.

Congratulations to all participants. I hope that you enjoyed playing this quiz half as much as I enjoyed running it. Thanks again to all who participated!

Thanks, that was fun. I also must give thanks to my older sister's record collection -- the reason I got the order right. The only albums on the list I ever owned myself were Sgt Pepper and Hotel California.

As long as you weren't looking them up in her collection!

(Now, what's kharizma's secret? Does he have an older sister? Come on, kharizma! We're dying to know!)

I had high hopes for this quiz, because I love classic rock (despite being born in 1975, so I didn't have the advantage of the "old timers" here ). A tie for fifth is probably the best I'll ever do in one of these Chronologies, unless someone asks to put Audrey Hepburn movies or Stephen King books in order... (hint hint)

Thanks!

You could always do one (hint, hint). (That's why I did Chronology V - I didn't want to wait around for one I'd do good in ... )

Vintage 1961 here, and I think bomtr was ca. 1952, so he probably remembers most of these being released... whereas I just memorize release dates as noted on later compilation albums, and which cost me two points when I screw up the bonus. Not that I'm bitter... Happy to be in the rhythm section--everyone knows about the bass player.

I remember "Walk This Way" on the radio in 1976, but it must not have been brand-new, any more than "Nights in White Satin" was new in 1972.

For me, the ascendance of AC/DC marked the death of the rock'n'roll I'd come to love earlier in the '70s. KISW-FM in Seattle used to be an amazing AOR station, and when I got back from freshman year in 1980, they'd gone all hard rock/heavy metal/whatever you call that headbanger garbage that AC/DC epitomized, at least for me. The summer '79 post-megahype letdown of Zeppelin's In Through the Out Door didn't help either.

Woof, I very much enjoyed this terrific quiz and your informative writeups in the reveals. Thanks a bunch for putting it on. Nice work!

ancient chinese secret

Not and Old timer/but no spring chicken either...Eclectic Range of 8 tracks, 45's, LP's of all sizes, tapes, and cd's.

Loved the quiz and the delayed reveal (sorry you had to deal with illness)but that added to the anticipation.

For your entertainment

Stephen King books in order would be zero city for some. A slightly better challenge would be a combination of characters or places? Okay, back to "Under The Dome." Less than 1000 pages to go.
