Political Cartoons

I know this is a firey subject, but what do you guys think about the situation concerning the Islamic faith and the cartoons. Remember be respectful. I am going to have to side with the freedom of speech. And when I say that I say it fully aware that that gives someone the right to say something I don't agree with. It could be a Klansmen, or even a bigot who doesn't like me for being biracial, I still agree with that person freedoms to voice his opinions.

But I digress somewhat.

As for the situation, I feel this is only going to escalate. This issue is real big and right now the US is publicly trying to stay out of it. But I did read that the Iranian government is going to issue cartoons concerning the Holocoust. I wonder if the western government will still feel the same about "freedom of the press and speech".
(two wrongs don't make a right)

what i think about these political cartoons that potray the Islamic faith, well i havnt seen one yet if ya got one show me but since it is a political "cartoon" it must have humor and with that it must be makin fun of sumthin also i have heard of a riot from a middle eastern country that was offended from a inaccurate portrayal of Muhammed in a cartoon, of course people dont riot for the historical inaccurate portrayal of Jesus

or make cartoons that make fun of him cause we all know waht will happen if you do...ya get shot

So i'll answer your question not just as a believer of the Islamic faith but a person with common sense, yes im offended why if u were to see sumthin that jokes or makes fun of sumthin that effects you ,u naturally should fell offended

But like you said it will escalate if some dumb ***** makes a buck off of it cause some otha fools wanna cash in to and the US publicity will not get invloved untill it reaches Christianity because they would want to please the majority

Images are very powerful and this is a perfect example. The problem as I see it that the people who are rioting who happen to be of the Islamic faith are not following their own teachings. Islam is against violence except in an EXTREME situation as I understand it. I could be wrong but that it what I am told. This cartoon does not fit the criteria. My understanding is that even when the prophet Muhammad was walking the earth he was mocked by some and never once did he suggest that a violent response was warranted.

Without knowing any of the facts, my best guess is that there is a large group of people being manipulated and misled. A mob mentality seems as though it is being created for someone's agenda. A problem is being created with the solution having been created first. S.O.P.

I know... I am a conspiracy theorist... lol.

As for Freedom of speech, I believe in it even when I don't agree with the message. Isn't it "unamerican" to behave and think contrary to that?

I've seen the images.

Found them on http://cagle.msnbc.msn.com/news/blog...d-cartoons.jpg

I don't really find all of them to be offensive, but some I can see as being offensive. It also displays stereotype. Not knowing much about the Islamic faith, I do agree that not all are extremist or should be considered "terrorist". I also read, that Iran is planning on displaying their own cartoons, which will most likely have a lot of anti-sementism. I believe it will be a test towards the western philosophy towards freedom of speech/press and will also fuel the whole Islam versus the world.

I also saw another cartoon http://www.mahjoob.com/en/archives/v...cartoonid=1713 (sorry couldn't find the translated version, so please take my word) well it basically says:

First panel, example of racism. Second panel, example of anti-semtism.
Final panel, example of Freedom of Speech.

(sorry, don't know how to post the pics up here, so hopefully the links will do)

Well I do agree that there is a mob mentality. I mean considering there are tens of thousands of people protesting, that's not a significant compared to over a billion muslims. But, let's be honest, there has always been an askew view towards muslims.

I also believe this is just a spark that will not soon be forgotten. An apology will not suffice, and those people in the Islamic faith, the radicals and extremist will continue to use this fan the fires so to speak. I mean I can actually see wars starting.

wow those images do look offensive, but the rioting is an extreme and yes it is against Islam to cause violence and retaliating radically unless a life or death situation but to sum it up the entire religion of Islam it advocates peace and prosperity among ya fellow man like any other religion does, oh and for the record the whole terrorism, Osama, and Saddam saying that there acts of violence is for there religion is blasphemy and sac religious folks, and so that makes the "Radical Islam" thing that Bush said in his union address an oxymoron.

But since CeeAyy brought up the word conspiracy, it makes me think about that freedom of speech right, hear me out on dis the political cartoons that shows the inaccurate depiction of Muhammed "IS" a form of freedom of speech but it comes into conflict with the freedom of religion right since it ridicules and unwelcomes a religion, this isnt the best refrence to use but the movie "I, Robot" made rules for these robots to live by and one rule was able to negate one rule if it came into conflict with another rule which is a lil like da rights thing since this one right (speech) comes into conflict with another (religion) but does one cancel out another hmmm it like a whole confusing paradox or i'm thinkin way to much

I think I can agree with what you are saying. My freedoms end where they infringe on your rights.

These Niggas Are Blowing Themselves Up Over Cartoons. Wtf

I Believe In Freedom Of Speech

I Think That It Is Funny That These Dudes Get Mad Over A Cartoon But Aljezere Always Pretty Offensive Stuff(burnig Flags, Massacares)

I Think That They Dont Need To Kill Themselves Over It

They Should Just Boycott Like Al Sharpton

I Wonder How These People Would Feel If Aljeazeer Or Thier Other Mediums Were Stripped Away.

Even If We Dont Agree People Still Deserve The Voice To Say It
