Season 23's new "HD-friendly" set

Something fun for my 3,000th. A panorama of the new set (fuzzy part in the middle courtesy the Flash video encoding on WABC's camera pan) and a comparison of the new set (above) vs. the old set (below).

Interesting to note:

- No substantial structural changes to the set. Same paneled walls, same curved-edge blue floor.
- The contestant podiums and host's lectern have been inexplicably revised. Possibly the contestant podiums are now wider and further-spaced to better fill an HD screen.
- The side-paneling around the game board is now symmetrical; previously, the panelling had existed only on the board's right side. I had considered this to be, of all things, the biggest impediment to aesthetic 16:9 presentation.
- On second glance, the game board screens appear to be 16:9 where previously they were 4:3. Does this mean that the show will be letterboxed for viewers with standard definition TV sets?
- The signaling device buttons are now green instead of white.

Not really. My TV is less than 25 inches wide, so those with SDTV will still get a clearer picture with the answers displayed, as well as the player's scores.

Will that give an unfair advantage to contestants with green thumbs?

The contestant podiums are wider. Not all of the signaling buttons are green.

Interesting set changes. The podiums are a step back to the old days, it looks like. The obligatory new season graphic change appears to have continued, too. Can't wait to see how it all looks on September 11.

EDIT: Just saw the video on the WABC site, and it looks like the graphics are spacey. Kind of weird, but we'll see how it all looks when the season starts. Also, I heard some of the celebrities that are going to be on Celebrity Jeopardy... and Curt Schilling is one of them! May not happen, though... considering the Sox could make the playoffs. Hopefully there will be quite a few more sports stars, too. Man, I am pumped about this. I wish I could go, but getting to New York and getting tickets to this are an impossible task, it seems.

Man, wouldn't that be sweet to have? The Jeopardy podiums right in my living room. That would rock.

If by "inexplicably" you mean "Myron doesn't hate them any more," then yes, "inexplicably."

That, on the other hand, is "inexplicable."

Well, Pam Mueller might want a bar for her place at law school too.

It is the coolest looking set I've looked at.

Glad you explained. I thought perhaps the new podiums were standing still while the old ones were moving at about warp 2.

Or perhaps that my medications needed tweaking again....

I'm looking forward to seeing the new season, period. Enough reruns, enough kids. Bring back the real thing!

Well, I read somewhere that the new board will not be a video wall anymore, true?

Because, from the photos, it seems like the new board still has the "video-wall" look.

They're going back to hand-pulled, printed cards. High Def. hand-pulled, printed cards, natch, but still, hand-pulled, printed cards.

Back to hand-pulled cards, I see. Looks like we're going back to Art Fleming mode.

But what to do when they do a video clue (Clue Crew, Jeff Probst, etc.)?

Someone could use a new sarcasm detector.

Hmm.. Hehe.. Just when I thought I might like the Jeopardy! set again...

When I'd first got word that Jeopardy! was introducing a "new" set, I somewhat got excited. Perhaps my dreams of seeing a revised throwback to the third season set finally came true.

Instead, all I see is nothing more than a rehab of the current set. Certainly the least favorite of the sets Jeopardy! has ever used.
