You're still a winner in my book!

Well done for Heidi, but the worst possible kind of loss is still losing by misspelling FJ! where it changes the pronunciation.

In my opinion that is a superweak ruling,, if he adds any consanant he wins. I am boycotting this stupid show for a month.

To any new visitor (JChump or others), in the hopes that you'll read this: Alex's explanation was accurate, but not complete. Misspellings that add a syllable are not acceptable, but they aren't the only misspellings that aren't acceptable. "Sargrasso" would be wrong. "Sarpasso", too.
I was incredibly uncertain that the Sargasso Sea actually qualified as a sea with boundaries that one could find in an atlas, but I stuck with it. Also, I think some of us might be fighting for the imaginary fourth podium in this game, with the Trash in the Tolkien category and elsewhere. |

As hard as it was to watch the ruling was absolutley fair and just. The judges went by the books and rules. I disagree it was superweak.
I PM'd you Heidi. As I said for most of the game I didn't think you would win but because of the judges ruling you won!!!! Congratualtions!!!! |

You may not like the rule, but they have applied it consistently and fairly. "Vilnuis" and "Bejamin Franklin" are other tough losses in FJ.

N.B. Ms. Vilnuis has already chimed in above.

All I want to know is if I set a season record for blowing the largest lead ($10,200, 92.7% of 2nd place) going into FJ. And to clarify, my whole life I thought it was the "Saragasso" Sea. Every time I heard it said (and granted, it hasn't been very often), I heard the extra "a." So I didn't even misspell it accidentally!
But as you saw at the end, Heidi is a very gracious winner, and it definitely took the edge off my disappointment. And Sarah is equally awesome. |

Longhorns they was...
We used to run Henry Weinhards out of Saragosa.
Could this be the cause of Toho's crossed wires? Hey Lisa, long time, no see! Always nice to hear from old friends. ETA: I see that Toho has already torpedoed my theory. Tough loss, buddy. I also had hoped that my loss set some kind of record, but alas, no. Don't know about your case (others will, fer sure), but I rather expect that others have lost even bigger leads given the all or nothing nature of FJ. Oh no, you are correct. I think that at some point in my childhood I had also confused it with Saragossa, Spain.

That was an absolute, flying guess, based only on the fact that I thought the Sargasso Sea might be somewhere near Florida. Nobody was more surprised than I was that it was correct.

And, not to be snippy, but I won because I got the FJ answer right--Toho would be the first to agree with me about that, I think. But I did feel bad, and I think you can see that the first thing I said to Toho was, "I'm so sorry." |
