Ladies and gentlemen, welcome. Good to have you here for the fourth of our quarterfinal matches. Jay, Sarah and Haley--so young, so young. Let's go to work in the Jeopardy! Round, shall we? Here are your categories in play. First off... JEOPARDY! ROUND CATEGORIES EEEUW...GROSS! (5/5) SPORTS TEAM HOMES (4/5) WHICH TIME ZONE? (5/5) TRANSPORTATION (4/5) ALL YOU NEED IS GOV. Ernest Hemingway?) (Alex: No, can you think of the novel?) (Haley: No.) (Alex: Scarlett O'Hara saying the words--) (Haley: Oh.) (Alex: --in Gone with the Wind. [*] is the author, and that takes you to zero, and it takes us to our first break for these commercials.) SCORES AT THE FIRST BREAK Jay: $2,600 Sarah: $1,400 Haley: $0 CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS Alex: If you're wondering why Jay Schrader from Lexington, Kentucky, lit into that sports teams category a little while ago, this might provide a response. One of your career goals includes becoming general manager of a professional sports team? Jay: Yeah, I think that would be really exciting. Um, I had to give up on the athlete goal when I was, you know, a little kid and realized I didn't have it so... Alex: Aha. Jay: I guess that's the next best thing. Alex: All right. Now when you're thinking of being general manager of a professional team, in which league? Jay: I guess the NFL. Alex: So you're into football? Jay: I do like football. Alex: All right, now what skills do you possess that would help you in this regard? Jay: Well, I--I think I know a lot about sports, and I'm a logical person. Alex: It's a good ambition. Keep it--keep it up. Alex: Sarah Marx was homeschooled until grade 11, and where are you now? Are you in grade 11 or are you a senior? Sarah: Well, I'm actually in grade 11, and that's not--that's not quite true. I started in, um--in my tenth grade year, and this is my only--this is only my second year of homeschooling. Alex: I see. But you participated in something that I'm hearing about for the first time--the national novel writing month. What was all that about? Sarah: Yes! Um, every November--um, I think this year is the tenth anniversary, actually--um, writers and amateur writers and people who want to try putting their hands to a novel, um, write--try to write--50,000 words over the course of the month of November. Alex: Wait a minute. Do you have to write 50,000 words? Sarah: Well, you don't have to, but to complete the challenge, you do. Alex: Wow, that's a lot. How--how many words--50,000 words is what--what is that? Sarah: Well, depending on the formatting-- Alex: A chapter? Sarah: --um, that's about 100 pages, so... Alex: I can't even read 100 pages. Alex: Haley Batz from Charlotte, North Carolina, a senior at providence high school. She's already figured out what she wants to do. She's gonna go to college in order to become what? A doctor? Haley: A doctor. Alex: And family medicine? Haley: Yeah. Alex: And you're not grossed out by some of the things that doctors have to deal with, because you've already seen or been a witness at what? Haley: Um, lung surgery. And I've held a brain, too. Alex: Didn't gross you out? Haley: Nope. Alex: Not at all? Haley: It was really cool. Alex: I... I can just imagine--"I'm operating on your brain now, and it's really cool! You're awake, I know. tell me--" Yes, all right. TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND SPORTS TEAM HOMES $400: College football's Cornhuskers battle in this burg (Jay: What is Nebrask--oh!) ALL YOU NEED IS GOV. $600: Jon Corzine ALL YOU NEED IS GOV. $800: Bobby Jindal, who replaced Kathleen Blanco (Alex: Saw him a lot during hurricane season.) Kudos to Hayley for getting herself back in the game. I thought she was a goner, but she kept her cool.

Congratulations all around for a competitive game. Hayley really got on a roll in the second half of DJ! to get on the Wild Card Leaderboard after FJ! And I wonder what Groucho and Harpo must be thinking about Sarah having their same last name.

thanks everybody. Brandon it wasn't that easy since two out of the three of us missed it!!! Don't worry i still love you but you're skating on thin ice. Jeopardy is amazing and for any of you who love the show but haven't yet tried out: DO IT! you won't regret it. You may regret certain answers (madison*cough*cough) but you will never reget the experience. it's pretty epic almost as epic as all the inside jokes but maybe that is only from teen tourney.

I hoped you would agree with that... the Queen City has always supported us whenever we play there. I'm even more positive that you'll agree with what pro football team to root for.

second of all, she is SO right. this whole experience was so great. even if you end up with -15,000 that WHOLE trip was AWESOME. the inside jokes (most of them started by me of course) were pretty epic. but seriously, try out.

you are forgiven simply because you said you recognized your own insolence and made me laugh. I think you have figured that one out, you can be a jerk if and only if you make me laugh. haha |

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations. And to those of you who have played on the show, did anyone else struggle as much as I did in finding a rhythm? I would get four or five in a row and then go quiet for a few questions.
