It's St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Not St. Jude's. Pet peeve, sorry.

The official site for the show mentioned the following

Doug Savant
Elizabeth Perkins
Chrsitopher Meloni
Pat Sajak

I have never heard of Savant and am vaguely aware of Meloni. Had she not been on last season's show, I wouldn't know who Perkins is.

I thought the celebrity tourney was of past celebs that have been on the show and did well? Sajack, while he has been on the show before, it was as host, not player. (This would probably be the only time that someone has been on the show as both host and player!)

Christopher Meloni is best known for his role as Elliot Stabler on "Law & Order, Special Victims Unit." IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005221/ He was on Celebrity J! 11/10/06.

Doug Savant plays Tom Scavo on "Desperate Housewives." IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0767443/ He also played the role of Matt Fielding on "Melrose Place" ('92 - '97). He was on Celebrity J! 11/09/06.

Cool from the audiotape vault....

November 9, 1993 (show #2112):

Ed Asner 7400 + 3500 = 10,900 (Who is Yassir Arafat & Yitzhak Rabin?)
Teri Garr 6000 - 6000 = 0 (Who is Begin & Arafat?)
Pat Sajak 6300 - 6299 = 1 (Who is Arafat & Shamir?)
(charity: Boy Scouts of America)

Final Jeopardy category: In the News

Answer: The Associated Press says about half its clients used the Ron Edmonds

Wolf finished DJ in the red. But as they always do in the celebrity shows, they gave him $1,000 so he could play FJ. Suppose the other two players had both bet big and he was the only one to get FJ right and he wound up winning. Would he have qualified for the next round?

Hmmm, strange, didn't know that he was a contestant before (and before he hosted it too, if memory serves!).

But I thought the point of the MDCI (Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational, or "the 1601" if you prefer ) was to invite celebrities who did particularly well in their previous appearances, ideally a win (somewhat like the TOC for regular players). Second place and a finishing score of $1 I wouldn't say qualifies.

The point of the MDCI is to draw an audience to a television program. The Jeopardy celebrity bookers don't need to handcuff themselves by coming up with a stringent set of rules that a celebrity must meet to qualify. It's clear they're trying to get a smarter bunch this time around, but I never heard them say they were only looking for past winners. The host of the show's sister program is a logical choice.

Besides, as anyone here knows, a final score is not necessarily indicative of performance. That's what the Coryats are for. Sajak appears to have not embarassed himself in a fairly evenly matched game between three reasonably smart stars. That's probably good enough.

I share the same philosophy, too. You also have to take into consideration that one or two players can get on a ridiculous hot streak with the buzzer and the third is, unfortunately left in the dust.

If Woody Harrelson were to get on Celebrity Jeopardy!, do you think they might let him play on behalf of NORML?

Good question.

Better question: would they let Ted Nugent play? I suppose he couldn't be any worse than Wolf Blitzer.
