This is the discussion thread for Season 1's Episode 1 "Natural Selection."
It airs this Saturday morning on Kids' WB on the CW. March 15, 2008.

Plot: Peter Parker and Spider-Man both must learn to own their choices when decisions made by Dr. Curt Connors transform Pete's mentor into the the Lizard.

this episode is very important to the future of the spidey movies. if audiences respond well to lizard character, he will surely be used in spidey 4, but if he is seen as lame or idiotic (no way in my opinion) the writers and producers will have to think twice before using him in spidey 4.

this is great, beacuse i get to look forward to a new spidey masterpiece every week. i think we all will be looking at the first 2 episodes as weak after this epidodes comes.

i want to see Jameson again he was like ****in crazy in the 1st episode lol and i cant wait to see sandman and venom and i think that after the lizard shocker is going to be the next villian he looks like in the comic.

yes, i hope that spidey gets more involved at the bugle soon. the villians i am most looking forward to are the villians that have been adapted to the screen, mostly venom, green goblin and doc oc. for gg and doc oc, it will be intereesting to you see how much they take the movie adaptions of the characters into account when creating the cartoon versions. i would very much like to see the movie version of doc oc brought to the screen. for venom, i would just like to see the real him again. i want to see a large, evil, chaos creating venom with substance, not just an animal on the prowl.

Matt Wayne, whose animation credits include Justice League Unlimited and Hellboy: Sword of Storms, makes his writing debut on Kids' WB!'s The Spectacular Spider-Man with "Natural Selection," this Saturday's new episode.

In "Natural Selection," Peter Parker and Spider-Man both must learn to make own their choices when decisions made by Dr. Curt Connors transform Pete's mentor into The Lizard.

"I prefer our take on the Lizard, and particularly this version of Martha Connors, to any Lizard in the comics," Wayne said. "We hew pretty close to the original story, but it's folded into the larger story we're telling about Peter Parker.

The episode marks the first Marvel story by Wayne.

"My only Marvel-related credit is a joke ad in 1989: The Year in Review -- an ad for Damage Control," Wayne said.

Wayne has written three of the first 13 episodes of The Spectacular Spider-Man. "I was scheduled to do another three for Season 2, but gave the last two away as I moved on to (BET's) Hannibal," he said. "We'll see about doing more."

i thought that this was the first mature episode of the series, and the first episode that i forgot that i was watching a cartoon. the battles between spidey and the lizard were incredible, and the way the lizard looked and ascted is what we can dream of for spidey 4. i can't wait for the upcoming episodes!

by the way, about peter getting canned, I think that it will be resolved by peter confessing that he is indeed spider-man. there really is no other way. this is not important enough to fuel eddies hatred for peter and spider-man in my opinion.

i was thinking either peter could make some sort of misinterpretated move on gwen that eddie sees... or peter could be caught stealing that lizard formula, suspected of trying to get better pictures, then when he tries to tell the truth no one believes him, digging himself into a deeper and deeper hole with eddie brock. This is if they make this episode the root of eddies hatred. if this situation is resolved before the symbiote storyline, then there are many directions they can bring brock's character.

I ended up missing the premiere of this eppy but thanks to online video sites I finally watched it.

This was a very excellent episode. The Lizard transformation was graphic. Alot more graphic then normal cartoons, no off screen transforms it was all there and plus Lizard still had the classic look.
