"The Spectacular Spider-Man" Episode 6 "The Invisible Hand" Discussion Thread

[Iron-Spidey]

Synopsis:


Peter Parker struggles to get a date for the Fall Formal (and to figure out a way to pay for it). Meanwhile, the unstoppable Rhino- the latest of the Big Man's creations- has sworn vengeance on Spider-Man. Spidey takes the battle directly to the source of his troubles, the previously invisible hand, who has been secretly conducting his villain-of-the-week woes! But the Big Man has a tempting offer he doesn't think our hero can afford to refuse. Will Spidey do the right thing?

this sounds amazing. every week different people say "best episode so far" but i have not. i still believe the lizard episode was the best. that being siad, i believe that meeting the big man, who i presume to be the kingpin, and spidey being given the choice between good or evil makes for a great storyline. they are handiling this whole villian creation thing with osborn just right, and i am happy they aren't stretching out the whole "big man" secret too far.

i know that is the real big man, but i thought they would use a different more recognizable character, like how montana turned into shocker. but i guess if fox has the rights to the character then i am wrong. it might be anticlimatic to hvae the comic big man be the real big man.

Yeah, they aren't even doing anything with the Daredevil franchise. Oh well, I think it's time another crime boss is given the chance to shine, seeing as Kingpin's been in every Spidey cartoon to date, Big Man, not at all. So I don't mind the change.

The "Big Man" mentioned in Kids' WB!'s The Spectacular Spider-Man will not be Kingpin. Supervising producer Greg Weisman confirmed that the character is not in the series.

I love how Gobby looks here, very exaggerated but fits the style of the show perfectly. With Rhino, you can see a resemblence to O' Hirn's face, I like that. And Ock just looks plain badass as usual. Love his trenchcoat.

GG:7/10:Looks a little girlish, too skinny but fits my expectations for the show and can't wait to see it! Looks like Romitas but put in the 21st century.

Rhino:9/10:Looks PERFECT! One probem, he has a hunch back but other than that he looks like a perfect mix of classic and modern! (i also like the horn)

Doc Ock:8/10:That tights and that jacket mix don't do it too much for me! I like how they threw in the jacket however. I can see how that wimpy nerd can turn into this villan in one night with the right motivation! Once again, like Rhino, classic with a modern feel. Also known as PERFECT!

I find your post quite ironic. Imo, Rhino's costume has never looked childish. He's always looked tough and like, well a rhino. There's nothing childish about a rhino. In addition to that, one of the most childishly-looking villains ever is, the green goblin. GG's first design up until now has always looked quite childish and its one of the reasons he was never taken seriously by gangs and crime bosses back in the golden age era. Hell, GG's design in this show is the most childish looking designs out of all the villains we've seen, even shockers. *gasp*

The purple hat and boots and ridiculous pumpkin bag that looks more like my sister's jean paul gaultier pouch has always diminished GG's look BUT as we all know none of that mattered when he killed Gwen and then was revived after a long and lame stupid plot twist. However, Ramos' redesign and Bagley's USM design pretty much eliminated GG's childish and kiddy-friendly look, which was long overdue imo.

The episode was written by Matt Wayne and directed by David Bullock. Clancy Brown, the voice of Lex Luthor in Superman and Justice League, provides the voice of Rhino.

I really hope we get to see Big Man, and from the sounds of it, I'm betting we will. Hope they've gone with that statue-esque mask he wore in the comics.

Kids' WB has released its schedule for upcoming episodes of The Spectacular Spider-Man.

The series will air twice on Saturdays -- at 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. -- beginning this week.

Following is the schedule for April:

April 12: repeat of "Interactions" at 9:30 a.m. and premiere of "The Invisible Hand" at 10 a.m.

April 19: repeat of "Natural Selection" at 9:30 a.m. and repeat of "Competition" at 10 a.m.

April 26: repeat of "Market Forces" at 9:30 a.m. and premiere of "Catalysts" at 10 a.m.

i dont think any of the villains in the series so far look childisch, not the goblin certainly, and not rihno. But at first i was worried about vulture. Boy was i wrong

I found it a bit too bad Fred Fosswell didn't end up being the big man like in ASM. Tombstone was ok but I was expecting Fosswell. Maybe they'll develop his "alter ego" the patch. Sure hope so.

All in all a good episode. Not the best but good. I hope this can convince some people that The Rhino isn't a bad villian.

pretty developed character right? Thats what I've always loved about Spider-Man. Every character has his own story that could basicly fill a novel or a movie

In this cartoon, they have made Tombstone into The Big Man. I love the cartoon, but they sure do change alot of things. I'm not so sure that having Tombstone as a crime boss is such a good idea. I think Tombstone as the Big Man works. They gave the character a major upgrade. Taking BTAS's Mr. Freeze as an example, he was a D-lister at best before hand and they turned him into an interesting character. Same here with Tombstone. IMO.

Yeah. They changed some things around. From hearing about this change though, it sounds pretty drastic, since they practically changed the villain of the Big Man. Makes me think of the black Kingpin from Daredevil.

I just saw the episode...and it's the best so far.
as a fan of Rhino, and a fan of destruction and noise...that was candy for the eyes. and Tombstone is a total badass. he totaly pwned Spidey. loved the episode. it'll be hard to top that for me.
and MJ didn't seem really excited...but she was pretty.

You weren't paying attention. Tombstone isn't the bigman. He even indirectly says so. We still don't know who it is. It could very well still be Foswell and there are many subtle hints to prove that this may still be the case.

So? The comics are the biggest culprit when it comes to making changes, especially when it comes to pointless and stupid changes. Why should any other media be different when adapting the comics? Besides, the spidey movies you love so much made a lot more worse and stupid changes than this cartoon series has.

No it doesn't. What it would do is, to actually have a Big time mainstream villain be of ethnic origin as opposed to all the villains being your typical, run of the mill white guy. How many mainstream villains in spidey's rogues galler, heck in the rogues gallery of mainstream heroes are of ethnic origin?? Not many at all.

Other ethnic villains of Spider-Man include Black Tarantula (latino), Bloodshed (black), Calypso (my favorite one - black), Dragonfly I & II (both asian), Hypno-Hustler (black), Knockout (black), Los Lobos brothers (latino), Nekra (like Tombstone she is an albino black), Tarantula I & II (both latino), Vermin (black), White Ninja II (Prowler's brother - black).
I'm not counting Rocket Racer, Prowler, Puma, Cardiac, El Muerto, Sentry, or Ramshot (these last two are 2/5 of the Jury and both black) because they're Spider-Man allies now at least sometimes. Though not always!
