We have had a very fruitful first season of the Spectacular Spider-Man. Not only did excellent voice actors affliated with Spidey like Josh Keaton and James Taylor assist, but new additions like Vanessa Marshall, Lacey Chabert, Ben Diskin, and John DiMaggio helped create colorful characters that will leave their mark on Marvel animation for the rest of this decade.

In the first season, Spidey tackles a stream of foes such as Vulture, the Enforcers, Electro, the Lizard, Shocker, Sandman, and Rhino. But as he grew stronger, two of his friends, Harry Osborn and Eddie Brock, leaned toward evil, and eventually became evil foes as the Green Goblin, and a very menacing foe.

To finish up the first season, Doc Ock, Chameleon, and his cohorts joined the fray as Tombstone worked harder to destroy Spidey, as Green Goblin was defeated and sent to Europe for therapy. But the main highlight of the final arc was the Symbiote Orgins, as it explored Spidey exploiting from its powers, fighting his demons, and recalling the famous story that made him the hero he is now.

And finally, we had an epic showdown with Venom, aka Eddie Brock, who has now lost all compassion and kindness, and become a sadistic powerhouse that proved himself Spidey's second greatest enemy. Also included was the confession of Gwen's passionate love for Peter, and the disposal of the Gene Cleanser, thereby erasing possibilities of the horrific Man-Spider Event that traumatized me for life.

Now here is the remaining question. What will happen next? Will we learn more about the secrets of the Goblin, and of the Osborns? Will Tombstone crack down harder than ever to ensure Spidey's destruction? And last, but certainly not least...how will Peter handle his ever-changing life in the distant, yet upcoming Season 2?

Here, I have decided to post my favorite parts of this season. From here, you are free to add your own lifes and dislikes about this season.

Villains: What would a Spidey eppy be without a villainous crook waiting to give our webhead a challenge? Favorites like GG, Doc Ock, and of course Venom made me anticipated to see them on screen and show their dark hearts. Some of the origins such as Electro's, seemed a little too improvised, rather than pertaining to their original stories. Overall, I rate the villains and their story layout 9/10.

Humor: While there weren't many side-splitting comments made throughout here, there were some funny quips and reactions to a character's status, such as the infamous Peter Stench Gag in "Market Forces". Flash Thompson was also a good source of humor, as his constant attacks on Peter often backfired and got him in trouble. Also, the MasterCard reference in "Reaction" gave me a tiny giggle. I rate the humor 7/10.

Character Development: This show had the exact amount of development there should be. In both social enemies-turned-friends, and friends-turned-enemies, there was drastic change which wasn't rushed, and it allowed a lot of time for us to get adapted to the new characters by the season's end. I rate Development 10/10.

Deepness: With our heroic yet humble hero in a sympathetic light, we learned to feel sorry for his constant stream of stress which he always fought through. The story of Uncle Ben is a great example of what I mean, and that made Pete's triumph over the symbiote in "Intervention" so great. I give Deepness 9/10.

VA: Fantastic voices. Not only did the main cast rock, but traditional VA's like Jeff Bennett, Jim Cummings, and John DiMaggio rocked to high heaven for their roles. For making their characters real, I give them 10/10

Overall, 45/50. Not a bad score. The only complaint I have is for some of the character designs. While Sean Galloway did an excellent job drawing Vulture, Doc Ock, and Venom, characters like Eddie Brock, Randy Robertson, and Chameleon seemed a little too childishly designed. Though the voice acting easily made up for it.

This is my view of the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series. Here's to a great second season in September! :spidey_cheers:

I loved the show.
Romance: 9/10.
Action: 7/10 (though individually, some score a 10)
Humor: 7/10 (good enough for me).
Voice Acting:9/10
Balance of Guts vs. Sugar Coated Cartoony...ness(is that a word?):
8/10.

My scores seem relatively low, but I honestly don't have anything worth complaining about. Loved the show.

Improvements: Doc Ock's action scenes could be improved upon.

In what way?

I have to agree, I thought Ock's action scenes were perfect.

Stroy: The fact that this show gets a lot of inspiration from the early comics gets it points. The way many villains was adopted is also good. 10/10

Villians: The villains were all good, not rushed, and they all gave spidey a run for his money 9/10

Humor: I thought this show captured Spidey's sense of humor perfectly. He was constantly sending out quips, some of them corny, and some genuinly funny. 9/10

Voice Acting: The actors did a great job with my favorites being Josh Keaton, John Dimaggio, and Steven Blum 10/10

Action: I felt that every episode had the perfect amount of action, with spidey really having to get creative in defeating his enimies. 9/10

Bonus points
Romance: 4/5

Large cast of characters which makes for great storytelling 5/5

Theme song was ok 3/5

The show was a lot less censored compared to TAS. Did anyone else notice that on this show characters can actually say "dead", "die", and "killed"? for not sugar coating anything TSSM gets another 5 points

Overall I give season 1 a 64/70 which is an A-. I think this will be considered the Spidey show for years to come. I can't wait for the show to be released on DVD and I especially cant' wait for season 2

This is easily the best Spidey show ever put on screen. No competion from TAS. Spectacular made TAS look like cr@p imo. Too bad season 2 is gonna take so long to come. Well actually not that long when it comes to pauses between seasons, but anything is long for such an extraordinary show.

my review for season 1 is very positive. the show is mature, and yet has a light hearted feel that a superhero adaption should have. they have captured every aspect of spidey's character perfectly, and have also done very well in capturing the essence of the villains he fights. all of the supporting cast was also made perfect, and the first season was able to create development and interesting storylines, yet it left everything open for future seasons.

i feel the season was broken into 3 catogories:

the first 5 episodes dealt with establishing characters and followed the "villain a week" formula that we have constantly seen in animated series. we saw high school comedic scenes and a view of spidey doubting what he has become. the lizard, vulture, sandman, electro and shocker were all done well, even if some interpretations were met with hesitation by the fans. 8.5/10

the next 4 episodes were a more darker tone for the series, starting at the inside look at tombstone and his runnings of the criminal underground. from there, the crime war between the green goblin and tombstone broke out, with spidey in the middle. the character development continued, and pete's love life heated up with gwen and mj. the action scenes were even better and both doc oc and green goblin were perfect.9/10

finally, the symbiote stage kicked in. these were great episodes, and the last 3 episodes were arguably the 3 best of the season. the sinister 6 was very successful in tying in the first episodes with the end of the season. peter's character was given depth and the storylines were amazing. these episodes is what brought this show from competing with TAS to on another level. it left everyone anticipating season 2, and many personal issues for peter to resolve. 10/10

from here obviously we will get new villians and some returning foes. i think we will see peter give up his role as spider-man. we also see the goblin storyline brought up again, and hopefully some development in peter's relationship to gwen. the show has set itself up excellently for season 2, and i cannot wait to see the great episodes they put out next season.

Interpretation met with hesitation = Montana as the Shocker and Electro as one of the guys who should be chasing after Kool-Aid Man...

Other changes I didn't like that others did: Shocker, Rhino, and Venom all appear a little too soon just so they could have a Sinister Six episode in Season 1? That episode should have probably been the season finale. Oh well.

I liked their changing of Chameleon though. They kept Tinkerer and Mysterio together in the same episode also, which was a nice touch because Mysterio's first appearance was actually in ASM #2 just not as "Mysterio" yet. With a team like that, if Black Cat wasn't around to help him, I think Chameleon and crew would have proved too much for Spidey. They are just too well-prepared.

Action: Hard to improve apon, it doesn't get much more awesome than Spectacular Spider-Man action: 10/10
Love: I'm gonna have to say 8/10, but why do I like it so much, the fact that it's all from the comics. In ASM: Liz Allen, does have a crush on Pete, Pete does have interrest in Betty, MJ is just the hot boy-obsessed girl and Gwen the actual love. So I really appriaced the choice to make the love story the originality that it offers in the comics.
Story: In the words of socool: A better scripted version of TAS
Villians: 10/10, nuff said, Spidey takes full use of the fact that he has the best villian gallery ever and still has enough villians left for season 2 and 3.
Humor: Not the most important aspect of a cartoon but it was pretty good. 8/10

All in all I just think the series rocks. And I loved the way it takes the best of comics and movies to make an ideal Spidey cartoon

the best part is that i feel fine not giving the show a perfect rating. the show got better as the characters became better known, and the writers and artists got a feel for the stories they were telling. i expect all of season 2 to surpass the early episodes and match the late greatness we got in the goblin/symbiote storylines. and season 3 should be the same.

this season's only flaw was that it was season 1, and so the early episodes were extremly normal. once the introduction of the hero took place there was no stopping the show. every week we got the best episode yet, and theres no reason to believe that season 2 wont pick up were season 1 left off.
