Loved the trailer. Looks fantastic. I'm new to this website but I was wondering if it was true that they had edited out a scene with the World Trade Towers. If that is true, why?Are we supposed to pretend they never existed because they were destroyed by terrorists? I will never forget.

Welcome to the site Stacy. Here's a site where you can watch the WTC trailer....... http://uhaweb.hartford.edu/obennett/welcome.htm Go to downloads and presto. You can thank "watercolours_dr" for the info (not me).

i dont think they edited it out...i think what happened, and this is based off rumors and such, is that that was only intended to be a teaser with lots of eye candy and not really in the movie itself

I don't know about that rumor. Considering how many hundreds of thousands of dollars it must have cost to film that whole bank heist scene (actors, sound stage, special effects), I have to guess that the studio originally intended to USE that scene. Studios are notoriously cost-conscious (and in the case of Disney: cheap!).
Too bad. I love seeing the Towers turn up in movies from the past few years. I saw them as an amazing American achievement.n

It's unfortunately true. The twin towers are supposed to be completely eliminated as a presence in the final film. We older members of the message boards here remember the whole website being shut down shortly after 9/11 while they were busy eliminating everything visual that appeared on the site.

At this stage of the game, I think they need to leave it in. TheAmerican people are loving any pictures ot the WTC in movies now and I think they would get extra attendance just for those scenes alone.
The Marriah Carey piece of **** movie "Glitter" had some scenes of the WTC in the background that could not be removed in time and people were cheering in the theater when the towers showed.
I think Sony is missing a big chance to show their "American spirit" if you know what I mean. Personally I just want to see the scen on the big screen because it was pretty **** good! :)

Being Japanese (Sony, not me) I wouldn't expect too much American Spirit.

I live 20 minutes from NYC. It is definately a very uncomfortable feeling looking at the city from any viewpoint now. Without the towers there.....it looks naked. I guess 'anger' still is a common feeling that passes through you at that sight. I feel that the towers were symbols of our prosperity and power. They should be remembered (and WILL be ).

I agree with you. I believe that if the WTC were such a big part of New York, as well as USA, then we should remember them as they were and not what they have become. I don't see the problem with having them in the movies, as long as they aren't being blown up. I hope that the movie producers/directors continue to have the WTC in the New York skyline scences.

this isn't the only film placed on Hiatus due to the terroism.
some people feel it was just "wrong" to show those scenes, and removed them out of respect for the lives that the disater has taken.
I think it was a good move.
as to the poster above who questioned american patriotism, maybe I should question him about "japanese rascism" or "japanese isolationism" or "how strange it is that asian women are practically swarming into the usa, OUT OF BOREDOM". speaking from experience, three years worth of living in japan.
you cann't pay me enough to ever go back...

I UNDERSTAND WHY SUCH BIG MOVIES IN PRODUCTION DURING SEPT.11,2001 WOULD EDIT OUT THE SCENE OF THE WTC TOWERS. FOR INSTANCE MEN IN BLACK II AND SOME OTHER FLICKS HAD EDITED OUT THE SCENES CONTAINNING THE TOWERS, MAYBE JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT A MOVIE REMINDING PEOPLE OF HORROR WHEN THE STUDIOS ACTUALLY WANT TO MAKE THE MOVIE EXCITING & ENTERTAINING...
WELL, IF THAT'S NOT THE REASON, THEY MUST HAVE HAD SOME MORAL AGENDA TO MAKE THEM EDIT IT OUT, I MEAN FROM THEIR POINT OF VIEW, THEY WANT TO MAKE A GOOD MOVIE THAT WOULD BRING IN A LOT OF CASH AND THEY MUST HAVE SPENT SOME BIG BUCKS TO MAKE THE TRAILERS AND THEN JUST EDIT THEM...$$
IN MY VISION, I THINK SONY SHOULD DEDICATE THE MOVIE SPIDER-MAN TO NEW YORK, AFTERALL, THE SPIDER-MAN CHARACTER IS BASED IN THAT CITY ANYWAYS...
QUOTE/DEDICATION THAT SHOULD BE IN SPIDER-MAN:
"THIS MOTION PICTURE, "SPIDER-MAN" IS DEDICATED TO THE HEART AND SOULS OF NEW YORK WHO LIVED THROUGH THE HORRORS OF 09.11.2002 ONE DAY AT A TIME. SINCE NEW YORK IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CITIES IN THE WORLD,WE SHOULD ALL REMEMBER "WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILTY" AND THE PEOPLE OF NEW YORK ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE TRULY GUIDED US WITH THEIR HEROISM AND BRAVERY..."

I heard that in the movie a plane was hijacked and they were gonna crash into the towers but Spidey saved them...If that rumor is true that might be why they took it out of the movie.

They should have left the towers in the film as a mark of respect!

I think that they should have left them in because they were there during filming. People should understand that they used to be there.

if i look out my window i can see NYC. As a new yorker my whole life and after losing my uncle who was a firefighter at the WTC, I would love to see as much of those towers as i possibly can. Whether it be pictures or in the best movie that will top the charts when it comes out in May. I say this only for the fact that i know ill never be able to stand in front of them and look up at them in awe. What do people think? that when somebody sees the WTC in a movie that people are gonna start rioting? i dont think so. people miss those towers and would love to see how they were praised and how they were loved. thats all i have to say. cant wait for the movie. Someone mentioned that leaving the towers in the movie would be a reminder of the September 11th disaster. However, what I have noticed others do (including myself) is that, whenever I (we) see a show or movie regarding New York, we are always looking for the WTC.
Whether the towers are in the movie or not, either way, people will remember what happened. If the towers are not there people will remember that they were destroyed. If the towers are there, people will remember their splendor and the loss experienced.. so either way, we will all be reminded about what happened that ominous day. That is my humble opinion and not an official statement :)

"Collateral Damage" (which will die at the box office IMO) then they could have left the WTC images in the Spidey movie. Personally, I work near the WTC site, and saw the events of 9/11 far too up close and personal. However, if in fact the Twin Towers did not play an essential role in Spider Man in terms of scene location, then I can understand the decision to edit the movie. I have mixed feelings on this. I just think the producers are too afraid that the sight of the Trade Center in the movie might take some people's mind off the movie.
In any event, we live and go on...my sincerest best wishes to all who were effected by the tragedy. For me, the Spider-Man movie has been somewhat cathartic, and has allowed me to fixate my attentions away from reality. This movie couldn't be coming out at a better time. And it will be the best superhero movie ever made.
My two cents. Take care all.

It could be that there are several reasons the WTC towers were removed from the movie. The first one that comes to mind would be in order not to "date" the film. The film is being released in 2002. In 2002, the towers are not there. It would be like showing a film that was supposed to have taken place in 2002 with the Berlin Wall in the background. In order to do that, we would have to build it again, because it just isn't there.
Maybe the main reason the towers are cut out is because of the unknown. The film makers are not sure how the viewers would take it. Movies are sometimes supposed to be an escape from reality. Spiderman is about a comic book character. Maybe leaving in the towers would make a movie, where you are supposed to use your imagination, too serious. I don't know....just a thought.

If I remember correctly, I read that the towers were edited out of the big scenes but are still in a lot of distant background shots. Has anyone else read this?

Yes, I think every one has.
People do stupid things (cutting off the WTC seen) some times, it's normal.
