View Full Version : A petition to save the original footage and honor WTC.

I was thinking of maybe making a petition letting everyone at sony and the creators of the spider-man film know how we feel about taking out the Twin towers from the final cut in the movie. I mean how odd did Zoolander look without the twin towers. I know it was a tragedy and they are trying to spare the feelings of those who were effected by it. But just forgetting about the Twin Towers like it never existed is not how I would like to be remembered. The twin towers was a symbol of New york and by leaving it in the movie you are actually honoring and remembering the people who unfortunatly died in this tragic event and remembering and honoring the Twin Towers themselves. Also by deleting that footage from the movie (the first trailer) they are probably cutting out one of the greatest scenes EVER shot and created. SO SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO SHARES THE SAME FEELINGS AND TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

I agree as well. In a couple of years we will all wish they were in the films. Especially if it becomes a classic!

I Agree. The towers should have been kept in the final footage. Or, at least, in the DVD version...

I grew up in the new york area and the towers were a big part of my youth.I feel for the loss of all concerned, but i think by taking out the towers is like letting [.the people..] who took the buildings out win, those two buildings weren't just buildings they were part of history, are we just going to omit them from our lives and act like they were never there? That is just what they want us to do.........Peace and love to u all ............Sahib.

Keep the Towers! Do not go gently into that goodnight. Those S.O.B's can't screw with our movie. Let the Towers continue to stand as a symbol. Can I get a Amen!!!

I think they should keep the footage, but I don't honestly know what it must be like for those that actually lost loved ones in the disaster, so I really don't know what their reactions would be. The way I see it, the towers were as much a part of New York as the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building, and figuring that the movie takes place somewhat before this tragedy, I don't have a problem with putting the WTC in the film, but I can understand why some wouldn't want it in there.
Anyway, if anyone wants a mov file of the original trailer, simply go here (http://www.blackcut.com/larry/movies/cool/Spiderman%20-%20Movie%20Trailer.mov) and you'll at least have the original footage, whatever happens.

Hi guys,
I'm living in the UK, and was both totally impressed by the phenomenal visuals of the wtc trailer, and shocked out of my mind at the 9-11 disaster. Again, I can't begin to fully understand the terror and grief of the many New Yorkers involved, but as an outsider, I feel that the Twin Towers were synonymous with NYC. To remove them would, to me and everyone here I've asked, be like admitting defeat. I'm sure some of the extremist lunatics responsible would cheer in joy if they heard that all these scenes were being cut. In fact, I read recently that a movie was shown in the US, that retained the WTC shot, and the entire audience stood and cheered in defiance and in honour of the New Yorkers affected. So, for my opinion, Keep the WTC scenes and get Mr. Bush to back this move with a statement to the world. All the very best,
Terry Cooper

I don't think the first trailer was a part of the movie. It's been described as a "vignette", and as a mini movie to promote the real thing.

Hey, fellow WEBHEADS!!! I just caught this posting, and let me tell ya' -- it echoes the cries of my own heart. I mean, why take such a great piece of moviemaking, and throw it away for fear of making someone sad, when in fact it is more honoring to leave it just the way it is. When someone dies, we bury their body, but NOT their memory! We don't suddenly decide that we are going to burn all their old pictures, or throw away home videos that include them. No, instead, we honor them by remembering them well and cherishing those artifacts even more, to say a loud and heartfelt "I'll always miss you...". Go ahead and correct me if I'm wrong, but I truly believe that the same principle applies here. To obliterate the "WTC Trailer" would be a great disservice to those fans who have suffered loss (ALL fans, really), rather than a gesture of consideration, because it is in embracing the memories of what once was that we help those victims live on in our hearts. I SAY KEEP THE ORIGINAL TRAILER!!!
If there is a petition available, someone contact me and let me know, so I can slap my signature on it, too.
On another note, I know where to get a really great high resolution (480X260) version of that very same trailer -- I'VE GOT IT!!!. I downloaded it with Morpheus (which I got for free at MUSICCITY.COM and renamed my copy for easier locating. Just use your search feature on Morpheus (or whatever media player you use) to find:
"Spiderman" Trailer - THE BEST ONE!!!
My listing shows Sony Pictures, Inc. as the artist.
And the filename is: spider-man_480.I[1].mov
Enjoy!!!

I too believe that the scene with the towers (at least during the teaser) is not actually in the movie. It's one of those "Attention Grabbers" used to....well...get your attention. I still love the scene though. Keep Web-Slinging till then.....**thwip!**

Notice how a lot of the people who are replying to this are not from the NY area. Some aren't even from this country. The people that aren't from this country didn't experience all of the sadness and anger that the people from the United States of America especcially the people from the East Coast felt. Imagine if you lost your friends, husband, wife, brother, siste etc. in the tradgedy of September 11, 2001 and you are also a Spider-Man fanatic just like each and everyone of us on this forum. Your all excited to see the movie and then in the opening scene you might see the Twin Towers. That would take your mind off of the movie and just make you sad and think about the person/people you lost in this. Nevertheless it would also ruin the movie for them. Eventhough it might seem like we are letting those cowards win, just think about how many people would protest the movie just because of the Twin Towers are shown in it. Just think of it this way:
Twin Towers in Spider-Man=People Boycott it=Less Money
Not what Sony wants now does it. Just look at it in Sonys eyes. They want to make money so they are gonna make the audience that had lost loved ones in the attacks feel comfortable.

The clip that everybody is talking about was only a promo clip. But still, the WTC is not only a part of New York, it's a part of Spider-Man, and must never be forgotten.
(My heart goes out to all who lost some one on that terrible day.)
All the messages above are all in favor.
So that must mean something.. Or Am I wrong?
If there was a original WTC footage in the Film, It has to stay in the movie.
And on a personal notice... "Can't wait till the movie get on the silver screen."
C-ya laterzzz.

Please return the footage. Don't let those scum take anything more than they already have. We still have our honor, our memories and our right to escape to a place of no limitations when we watch a movie.

I thought when they took off the twin towers trailer that they said it was NEVER in the movie and was made just for tv.
Which is a good idea since to many movies show all the good parts in commercials

Oh yeah guys we're gonna show those terrorists how tough we are. . . .pfffff. Really I know its bad that they are neglectinf the Twin Towers but I'm with str2k2 on this one. What are we going to prove. . . . .I don't think that they are gonna care if we put the towers in a comic book hero movie. . . ..I'm from NYC really close to the attack so don't think that I don't care about what happened. . .

definitely show the footage of WTC, maybe even as a special deal before the movie starts (for the sequel) or put it on the VHS or DVD when it comes out
spidey1217

i deffinately think the origonal footage should have been left in. by cutting it, we are not only in denial but we let the terrorists use the only real weapon: fear.

I think that the trailer is very nice and it's the best of the Spider-man trailers. I would sign the petition. I would also like to see it as an extra on the DVD.

Well heh heh, you guys preety much summed up all or some of the things I wouldve said myself too! So Aye for me! Count me in!! If for some reason that they dont add the WTC clip in the movie, they should add it for the sequel. Thats if it would work for the story though if you know what I mean. I bet at any chance that there will be a sequel to SPIDERMAN! There has to be one you can hope on that. So people keep on signing the WTC petitions, you never know, it may actually work!! Later ;) :)
