View Full Version : Kirsten Dunst?
I like Kirsten Dunst, but as Mary Jane? Mary Jane is too much of a supermodel babe to be played by "teeney-bopper" Kirsten Dunst. I always figured her to be more of an adult role. Besides she looks too young next to Tobey. I think they should've cast someone with more sex appeal.
Also, now that Mary Jane no longer exists in Spidey's life, I don't think they should've introduced a love interest in the first installment. There's too much going on already (i.e., Spiderman's origin, the Green Goblin's origin, the death of Spiderman's uncle, etc.) Fans of the original Spiderman comics know that Mary Jane was introduced a year or so after the first edition. I'm worried that they are going to commit overkill in terms of trying to incorporate TOO MUCH of Spiderman's life into ONE film.
Mary Jane may be important...but the first film should focus ONLY on Spiderman and his primary nemisis, The Green Goblin.
Also...organic webshooters? Bad idea. Makes him more of a mutant than it does a human who acquires superpowers.

There is no way that you can tell the story of Spider-Man without Mary Jane. She may be gone now, but there is too much about the psyche of P. Parker to be avoiding the inevitable. Besides, what regular Joe is going to see the movie if it's about some freaky loner that can't get a date? Does that sound like the Spidey you know?

Okay, First Kirsten is not a "teeny-bopper" star. I'm sorry but she has surpased her "Teen Queen" title with Crazy/Beautiful and she was cast in "The Cat's Meow" were she is portraying a woman in her late 20's.
Second, I can understand why Sam Raimi introduces Mary Jane in the First movie. Because there is no GARUNTEE that there will even be a second Spider-Man movie. Now I personally hope this one is good enough to spawn a franchise for Sony, but there is a chance that it doesn't. And plus some people have only basic knowledge of Spider-Man and Mary Jane is part of the basic knowledge of Spidey.
And lastly, most movies need a love story to help develope the story line better and to get the crowd to get even more into the story line. If you think about it there are actually very few super-hero movies that were good that didn't include a love story. So why not have Mary Jane?

Kirsten Dunst does have talent, but she really doesn't seem right for the role. I believe in Sam R. though and trust he sees something that I don't.
Crazy/Beautiful may have been more mature for her, but this role doesn't exactly call for that. Plus, even though she's a red head in this, it just seems like that blonde will come popping though at any moment.
I'll give the decision thumbs up for now and we will all see come next year.

alright, now i know the movie is already made and theres no going back on this one, but for the next one, i think they should just ask all the fans what they wanna see, cuz i mean, like with tomb raider, that was the most "pg" rated piece of dog cr*p ive ever seen, and i swear to god if that happens to spider man, if they tone it down for younger audiences and make it all slow so that they can get more fans, then i will be tremendously pissed off, there are MILLIONS of spidey fans out there today, they could release it straight to video and still make billions of dollars i bet ya anything, oh an as far as the whole kirsten dunst thing, i agree, she is not mary jane, she is too young and i dont care if she could pull off playin a 40 yr. old, mary jane had a specific flair to her that is hard to capture.null

First off, Kirsten Dunst is hott, and MJ is a supermodel so it fits perfectly. But the most importent thing is that who cares if they are putting too much into a movie, they are forgetting the most vital thing in the Spiderman line. Gwen Stacy. She was Peters best friend and FIrst real love, and with the green goblin as the enemy how could you not want Gwen, and who better to play her but Sarah Michelle Gellar. I fell that this would not only make the movie great cause it already will be but make it a Legend. So that is my paper bag opened up.
p.s.-dare I talk about Ben Riley, i think that would just confuse the non true believers
Kirsten is great..but too young for the role..she´s just nineteen years old,guys....a couple of months older than me ,dawm it (i´m cursing cause maybe i don´t have a chance with her)..and...altough she´s beatiful....i don´t feel a hormom appeal to her....i can´t masturbate thinking of her,it´s kinda i love her.

I don't really like the idea of Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, but I do like the idea of Sarah Michelle Gellar as Gwen Stacy. Too bad she aint in the movie.

I also hope they dont cram too much into the movie, like in star wars episode 1. You dont get to know the characters or feel for them because the camera is focusing on too much at once. They need to build one certain aspect of spidey's story.

Good point, eloc, I hope they don't do the same to the movie, but in Star Wars Ep1, there were too many characters. Spider-Man only has a handfull of main characters, so I don't think they'll overload the film, it'll be nice and evened out.

I'm not sure about you guys but Kristen Dunst just DOESN'T do it for me. She is not MJ just like Anna Paquin isn't Rogue. Yeah if there's a sequel she might grow into the role, but right now it just doens't seem plausible. I know that real life characters cant completely imitate comics but I'm sure they could have gotten something closer. I think they just needed some extra star power to give it some more incentive for people that are not familiar with the spidey comic. Dunst BOOOOO!

I agree about Gwen, she should be in the first movie of spidey, if you have Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin, you must have Gwen, so you can have a love story with the superheroe, but also a big tragedy. Of course that uncle's Ben death is the more tragic event on Peter's life, but if something can define the struggle between Spidey and the G.G. is the fact that he killed Gwen, and I think that is great for drama intentions, because you really put in danger to the charachters, I mean, everybody knows that Peter and Mary Jane can't die, but only real comic books fans Know of Gwen's death. I think that could has made a better movie for all audiences, and a more close to the real spider man we read every month.

She Kirsten is a child actress trying to broden her horizons. She was great in Jumanji and drop dead gorgous. Now that she's an adult she wants to start acting like it. Can you blame her.
Let's not judge her performance till we've seen what's she like

When's the last time that you actually got out of your bedroom and actually had a "love interest" other than your hand. It doesn't matter if Mary Jane is portrayed as a "supermodel" or a "teenie-bopper", just as long as she looks good, can act, and has a great set of tits!!! (acting optional of course) So just relax, as everybody knows these movies rarely run congruent with the information and timeline that exists in the comics. Or did you miss "X-Men, the movie" with a 13-year old Rogue running around with Logan?
