GOUDHURST'S own Spiderman will do whatever a spider can to help young leukaemia victims by running in this year's Flora London Marathon.
Summerhill resident Trevor Crysell hopes to raise £2,000 for charity Children With Leukaemia while dressed as the web-spinning superhero – and set a new record for the fastest run by a movie character in the process.
It will be the 42-year-old company director's seventh London Marathon and his ninth in total.
The time he must beat to get the record is 3hrs 51mins and with a personal best of 3hrs 47mins – set in the New York marathon – he feels he is in with a good chance on April 26.
Father-of-five Mr Crysell said: "The fastest by a superhero is 2hrs 51mins, which I'm not going to get near, but I'm aiming at 3hrs 30mins – that's the goal.
"I'm training five days a week. Anything's possible if you try hard enough."
Leukaemia is the UK's most common form of childhood cancer with 500 children diagnosed each year in the UK. Although survival rates have steadily improved over the past 40 years, it still causes the death of approximately 100 children every year.
