Toe-bee or not Toe-bee, that is the question!

He's perfect for the roll, Logan. Who would you prefer, Hugh Jackman?

Just look at the wallpaper, Tobey looks JUST LIKE Peter Parker! They couldn't have picked a more perfect person, because Tobey has already played the shy type guy in other films (for example, Pleasentville) and he will be perfect for Peter Parker/Spiderman.

Catch ya later!

PS. Even though Hugh Jackman is my favorite actor, even I know he couldn't be a Spiderman, he's just not the Parker type. :o)

From a female point of view, I can TOTALLY see Tobey in that suit, he is NOT that wimpy! A girl knows these things :o)

sorry wolverina, and everone who thinks tobey is the right choice, he is a horrible actor to play spiderman, spidey does not deserve to be played by this guy who doesnt have Spiderman's attidude, look and mood. Ben Affleck is an excellent choice, but Tobey is way to scrony and weak. No one will ever believe that the muscular spidermans in the computer animated clips is Tobey Maguire. Anybody could kick his butt, even my mom could kick his butt. I Know cameron is lightening up and becoming more femine, you know with Di****io from Titanic, and Dark Angel, but If he is going to take a CLASSIC like SPiderman, which many have been waiting for 50 years, its about time that the role of spiderman be played by man, not a boy.

You're either a total moron, or have no knowledge of Spider-man history what-so-ever. Tobey is a fine actor, and perfect for the role of Peter Parker. Affleck? Give me a break! Over-rated actor, and no Peter Parker............and that's being nice. Save Benny for the Kevin Smith films.

06-17-2001, 11:38 PM
vamphunter01--Hmmmm, Ben Affleck? Nope, he's not got the attitude to be Peter, way out there. (And I like Affleck too), and, I don't quite get this...

"I Know cameron is lightening up and becoming more femine, you know with Di****io from Titanic, and Dark Angel, but If he is going to take a CLASSIC like SPiderman, which many have been waiting for 50 years, its about time that the role of spiderman be played by man, not a boy..."

Where did that come from?! James Cameron is not directing Spiderman, it's Sam Raimi, HELLO! Come on, do some research beforehand! And, from what I know,Peter Parker, became Spiderman as a BOY(teenager), not a MAN! Duh!

now i see most people's point of view, tobi is not as muslcular or a huge guy, like spiderman is portrayed in comics,
but comics are comics!
A guy can't look completly dorky in one shot and big and bad in the next!
I mean c'mon actors can only do soo much, and besides its not the demeanor of the actor that matters,
its his ability to give the character life!
so if he finds it within himself to fully become spiderman
then its all good!

Alright people,

some of you guys are throwing in your coments here and ther about tobey being too wimpy, *** or retarded to play spider-man/peter parker. why don't you keep those *** or retarded comments to yourselves until the movie actualy comes out! then we'll see what you have to say

I agree with VampHunter - Tobey is not only great for the role - but Spidey was about 17 years old when he got the power. Yes, in today's comics he is in his 30's or older but since the movie is about when he became Spidey - Tobey is just right. He'll do a fine job - and from the teaser trailers and interviews, etc I have seen I have no doubt fans and non-fans are gonna love Spider-Man the movie

Watch Cider House Rules! Then you'll see why the kid is the perfect Peter Parker. I've been a Spiderman fan for a very long time, and Tobey's demeanor and body motion is a dead on vision of what I expect from Peter Parker. Remember, Peter was nerd and wasn't buff, til the bite anyway. His outward apperance was still the same! Spiderman is a wiry and flexible, not a buff blockhead. As for Afflick, gimme a freaking break, Pearl Harbor and Armeggedon, I don't think so!

He looks ok with the suit.Yeah, like give the guy a break. It always something wrong with the lead in comic to movie adaptations.Kirsten Dunst doesn't look like Mary Jane at all.But Hugh Jackman did good.Anyways, back to the point,Tobey fills the suit,so to speak.I've seen the full figure in a magazine and on www.countingdown.com,with (http://www.countingdown.com,with) padded muscles.msanjeev@maxis.com.my

tobey is perfect as spiderman! he looks shy n awkward which is what peter parker is. superhero's alter ego's always are. they never feel like they fit in with the rest of society. as 4 his body - he buffed up before shooting.

Having the edge over you in that I actually went to film in California a few months ago, I can say Tobey is a tremendous actor and can pull this part out of the hat easily, I also have news for you all INSIDE that suit is most of the time Tobeys stuntman Alex (up until he broke his leg anyway) and even still under the suit is a muscular body mould to give the appearance of this.

The movie isn't out yet, so stop condeming tobey. Also, as far as i'm concerned, anyone who uses the word ***** to describe something suddenly loses all credibility and has absolutely no reason to pass judgement on ANYTHING. And someone left a post that implied casting tobey is disrespectful to long-time spidey fans. The same post also contained the word wrongest. Watch a tobey maguire movie...he's someone that can be related to, which is exactly the kind of person we need to portray our favorite superhero.

This is always the debate, is he a good actor? Does he look the part? Is he buff enough? Why don't I just wait for the movie?
The answers are: Yes. Yes. Yes. If Tobey looks dorky, then Raimi has done his job. As you fans well know, Peter Parker was the class geek and was ridiculed by his peers. Tobey Maguire is a superb actor, and I have confidence in his skills as one. He is going to pull off this role, and with flying colors, so cut the kid some slack, he's been handed probably one of the most coveted roles in a comic book movie, the others of course being: Superman, Batman, and Wolverine. What would you do in the situation, just what he's done, read all the spiderman you can get your hands on, try to look a little buffer and more muscular, and try to please the fans by giving a dead-on performance.
Everyone had the same reservations about Hugh Jackman, and look how that turned out.

Ben Affleck? Please. He's funny in Dogma and the other Smith movies, but the man can't turn down a script to save his life. Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, both sucked.

Thanks for actually reading this long P.O.S.

I am happy to see all these people against Tobey as Peter Parker(Spider-man). The same was said about Keaton for Batman.

Yes I did like Keaton before the first Batman, and he is better than the two actors who followed him in the role. Athough I have liked the other actors in other endeavors.

The biggest part is script (story to pull the viewer in and make them feel for the people and events as they happen and unfold to the end)

There was once a great director who was quoted as telling a leading lady actress that if the script was good he could play the female lead and everyone would still enjoy the show. Can anyone name him ???

HINT It wasn't Shakespeare (although his cast was all male and people still think his stories are great read and performed

o.k. guys let us not forget the uprising of micheal keaton as batman !!! all the fans all lost their cool over a slim puny comedy actor wearing the cowl. now days you'll find most people saying he was the best batman of all. the fact of the matter is this is a movie an the to truly give us all a good story an make money so they can make a sequel is to cast a top rate cast. the have to appeal to a broader audience than just the die hard fan. we should all thank sam rami for giving us the chance to see spidey 3-d anyway. this is the manwho gave us army of darkness to a simple plan. just rent the movie the quick an the dead an think about the visual feast we will be in for. the best vthing about hiring actors instead of look alikes is belivabilty. an trust me i'd rather watch a movie that intrested me than a 2 hour bore feat. if you don't belive me watch x-men a fine example then go watch any joel shumacker batman flick. trust sam rami. his butt is more on the line than we could imagine.

Tobey is a great actor who I think embodies the persona of Peter Parker. I don't think of him as being muscular (and I never thought of Peter Parker as such). I just hope that when the movie comes out, they don't make him look more muscular in the suit than he is without it. The one thing I have against McGuire is his voice. When he talks he sounds like he hasn't completed puberty yet.

dude the movie is the origin of spidey it dont take places in the middle of peters life so tobey will do fine.as spidey and actors have ways of making there voices sound diff from there own look at russ crowe in some of his movies his vocals dont sound the same....so maybe he will do something like that...........later

To all who think Tobey Maguire is a bad choice for the role of Peter Parker/ Spider-Man, you all need to wake up. I am a huge Spider-Man fan, and I have seen and studied the character from day one. Geek equals Peter Parker and Tobey Maguire can do geek, nerd, shy, and everything else Peter Parker is. Hero equals Spider-Man and Tobey Maguire may not have played a superhero yet, but he is a tremendous actor with one hell of a filmography under his belt for someone his age. Sam Raimi was not only looking for someone who could look the part but could play it with a passion and respect for the character. Think people.... to have a great movie, you need great actors. So far there has not been a bad casting choice (Willem Dafoe...how perfect was that!) Give the guy a break. Think about other factors instead of whether you like someone or not.

07-13-2001, 09:37 AM
For those that are arguing casting, let's give it a chance, please. Both Tobey and Kirstin are very accomplished and won the job fair and square. And I don't think Tobey is too wimpy for the role. As the Ultimate Spider-Man series shows, Peter Parker is...well, a nerd. Get the over-muscled superhero, i.e. Incredible Hulk or Wolverine out of your heads. Peter Parker is supposed to look the normal guy. Tobey Maguire is about as normal as you can get as far as a young Hollywood actor.

While I do agree that toby makes a good Peter Parker...I just couldn't really see him in that Spider Man costume build. No offense to any big fans, he is a good actor...I just think they coulod have found a little better to play Spider Man.

I have only heard one real alternative to the Tobey Maguire situation, and that was, well, um... Ben Affleck. <barf>

Do these people *know* anything about the story? Have you ever *looked* at Ben Affleck? Those TEETH!

Here's the deal: Young, dorky kid suddenly gets these amazing powers and becomes Spidey. He's cool, smart, compassionate... blah, blah, blah. The name that comes to mind when I think this is Tobey Maguire... Ben Affleck? Maybe if he could act...

Tobey McGuire's an actor! Know what that means? That he can bring different characters to life! Hey, I didn't think Michael Keaton would be able to pull off "Batman", but he freaked it! I'm sure Tobey will do Spidey JUSTICE!

kotchos
07-14-2001, 03:49 PM
Part of Peter Parkers charm is that he is that shy type of character and I think thats why Tobey was chosen. It could have been worse. I always thought Christopher Reeve as Superman was a bad move. The guy had no muscles but still Superman the movie turned out ok.

Have faith!

I can't think of any better actor to play Spiderman, sure Toby is a little goofy, but so is Peter Parker, it'll be perfect! and the person who said Kirsten Dunst isn't a good Mary Jane (you know who you are) she's made for that role, she has so much to prove, have you seen the movies she's done? This movie will go down in history right up there with Superman, I just hope by the success of this movie, there will be a bigger market for comicbook movies.

07-15-2001, 05:24 AM
I'm not inclined to toss Maguire out yet for being cast as Parker/Spidey. When Micheal Keaton was cast in the lead roll for Tim Burton's Batman, no one thought he was right for the part either.

His performance was better than the others. Val Kilmer was too young. George Clooney was too stiff (although he did wear a cast for most of the shoot) Let's not forget Schwarzenegger's pitiful acting for Mr. Freeze.

You know your in trouble when a cartoon version does a better job than you do.

mkleiman
07-15-2001, 09:55 AM
wow, you guys are ridiculous. First off, take the director, Sam Raimi. Like Sam isnt going to make Tobey the coolest Spider-man in the world. Obviously he was the top choice over many actors, and they knew exactly what they are looking for. Dont bash him, Just wait and see. SpiderMan was suppose to be smaller, thats what makes him so unique. He isnt like the other super heros. He has flaws, he is smaller, and fast, and can get hurt.

Why are you talking about Tobey being the right Spidey or not? He's been cast and he'll be fine. The ones of you who call him ***** and mean this as an insult obviously don't know anything about the main theme in marvel comics. Spidey has never been the kind of guy you folks would look up to so Tobey actually seems to be the perfect choice.

A_man
07-17-2001, 11:19 AM
Ok i am not sure tobey is the perfect choice because he is a serious looking guy and we all know that spiderman has humor even when he is fighting. if he turns out to have that special spidey attitude then how he looks doesn't matter.

07-17-2001, 08:10 PM
First off TheweaponX...Peter Parker WAS a wimp. That's what makes him the greatest Super Hero ever.He was like most average kids growing up until the mishap with the spider. And if you look at the pictures of him recently it's obvious the guy was on a work out program for the role...like every other actor. He's a great actor and will do a fine job as Peter Parker and Spiderman's voice, Now it's up to the director and Effects people to pull off Spiderman.

webheadwalker
07-18-2001, 04:29 PM
Tobey's perfect for the part. The reasons are all above.
Ben Affleck? Naaaaaah. Too old(for origin story). Too plain looking. No where near as fine an actor.
Anyway, for those doubters; could anyone really have imagined Micheal Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman before he proved he was the best Batguy since that-one-who-does-the-voice-on-the-animated-series?

DutchStone

Ok, I've read over all the messages about Toby becoming Spiderman, and I can honestly say that when it was announced, I was kicking myself for missing the auditions for the role..lol
I've been a Spiderman fan for longer than most of you have had birthdays, and I feel like I can give an honest opinion about my expectations of the decision of who takes on the role of Peter Parker.
I say, Peter Parker, because that's the role that Toby was primarily chosen for.

I think we can all agree that Spiderman was bitten in his teens, and at the time had no confidence, was a complete nerd, and once he became spiderman, he would change persona's completely.
Now Toby is a fantastic actor, and I'll give him credit for bringing a real sense of characters' to all his movies, but...BUT... there's got to be some line drawn in the sand, when these studios are making comicbook-film adaptation films about characters they know so little about, yet make the decisions that will make all followers of the series (comic) either groan or giggle with delight.
Is Toby the right choice? I personally don't know, but I am leaning more towards one opinion of I don't think so.

All true fans of Spidey, know that after the bite, and the Spiderman personality surfaced, mask or no mask.. he was a superhero. Which usually entails having bulging muscles, perfect hair, and a believability that if needed, that hero could beat back the green goblin. And the costume is not usually equipped with sewn in muscles to intimidate the villans.
But since the choice has been made, and it 'is' a truly good actor taking this role on, let's give him the benefit of the doubt, until you've spent your week's allowance (for all you child'ish webheads who feel like throwing vulger insults around), and see if the movie lives up to, or at least comes close to the comic book series.
I sure hope so for the fact that I've been excited about the movie since James Cameron was going to do it immediately following T2...(but we all know where that went).
I dare anyone who says they hate this movie because of the role lead being Toby, to 'not go see it'!! Chances are, you're still gonna go, ...and when you do, try to at least give it a fair chance...after all, I missed the auditions for it..<g>.
Cheers!

Tobey is just about wimpey enough to play PETER PARKER! It wouldn't matter who was in the suit, they'd just do a voice over anyway. But Tobey's got the right build, voice, attitude. Check out the original Steve Ditko or John Romita or even John Byrne comics and you'll see what he's supposed to look like.

And to the guy who thinks Ben Affleck would be better:

Tobey has the perfect look for Peter Parker (teenage years)/Spider-Man. I have to keep it into consideration that alot of you are "newbies" (although you think you may know alot about this story) to the depth of this story. Tobey is a really good actor and can deliver the pain and heartache that Peter Parker went through as a teenager before and after the spider bit him. Try to understand this "newbies" and all you old school Spider-Fans try to remember this movie isnt really based on the cartoon that comes on Fox 5! In that cartoon when Peter was bitten he wasn't drawn to look wimpy and he certainly didn't look like he was a young teenager in high school (I have the episode). So if your trying to base your judgement on that...you really shouldnt comment on Tobey at all because your not even in the right ball park! This movie is based on the COMIC BOOK version and its placing Spider-Man in a manhatten NY of 2001. Peter Parker before the spider bite was not just a dork...he was the SCHOOL DORK!! He was a geek, a nerd, just about everyone picked on him, he wore glasses, he was shy, going to school was a day by day torture, he got picked on and beat up before school start, while school was taking place, and after school!! Keep picturing Tobey portraying this; Peter came from a not to well off child hood, he wouldnt have the things that most kids have like a dvd player or cable he wouldnt have enough to buy his own computer (but he could build one), he didnt have his parents (that hurts), he lives with his dear aunt & uncle (the people that love him unconditionally), He has a heart of gold and always tries to think to handle things the "way that he was raised" in a enviroment that always seems to step on him! He doesnt know how to fit in, but he wants too...he just cant. Then on a class field trip he's bitten by that spider that will change all that!!! At first he's scared because he already is thinking of himself as a freak...and now...HE REALLY IS! Who can he talk to about what he's going through? Who would understand? Perhaps the authorities would take him away, or people in lab coats may show up to take him away. What would this do to his aunt & uncle (keep picturing Tobey acting this out) then he starts to get used to his "powers" and uses them to bring in money not for himself...but for his aunt & uncle by joining professional wrestling. All the lessons of being taught whats proper from his aunt & uncle for a moment are thrown out the window when a thief that he easily could have stopped he lets get away and later finds out that that thief murders his uncle in their home before his dear aunts eyes!! Imagine how you would feel, imagine how Peter would feel, imagine Tobey portraying this! When he puts on the Spider-Man outfit he can be a different person, he's free, he can show off his powers without fear of being found out , he can do things that no one else can...but he feels he MUST avenge his uncles death! Okay Okay alot of you already know ALL of this but the point is Tobey can pull this off. Give him a chance to show you, they doubted Michael Keaton, Tobey is going to make this bigger than Batman, Superman or Spawn all put together! You are about to experience movie history...The day Spider-Man came to the silver screen and brought the house down!!

Imagine Tobey pulling this off...you wont have to imagine...for he IS...The AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!!!!!!!!

I agree with all of those who thinks Tobey is good for the role of Spider-Man. I went to a couple of the typings and...YES! Tobey looks too skinny for the part in magazines, But in person he is the best person for it!!! I to have seen previews of the movie and he great!!! You'll see that me and everyone else who agrees is right when the novie comes out!!! Bye!

Why do ppl constantly want some muscle bound guy on steroids? I mean when Hugh Jackman was chosen to play Wolverine nobody supported him b/c he didn't LOOK like some short cigar smokin Canuck wit pointy hair.
So yeah maybe Tobey doesn't have all the muscles of today's Spiderman but he's only suppose to be a kid in the movie right? Plus Peter Parker is kinda shy and well...geeky..that's what made him a likable character. He was a normal guy.
But anyways...I thank god above that Ben Affleck was not cast for this movie!!!

"An Actor just right "

I seen his Movies, and there actually pretty darn-good, I think
he makes a good spider-man, even though he's whimpy looking and maybe better shape an compared to you.

Just a flash news? They're already making the film(why bother arguing)
And if you feel that way don't bother" watching the movie.

Yo Vamp... do you read the comicbooks? Have you taken a look at of the first 25 years of Parker/Spiderman? Do so. Peter Parker WAS a dork and a wimp. Flash Thompson picked on him constantly because those kind of kids were ALWAYS picked on. I am not totally sure of Tobey's acting ability. I don't remember Pleasantville. But as to him appearing correct in the "look"...well he fits. He definitely fits.

Vamp...read, kiddo!! I don't mean to be nasty but...You know not of whenst you speak!

Isn't it the job of the actor to sell the character? Isn't it about how the actor comes across on the screen? Let's not forget that people were having the same conversations when it came to casting Batnman in the first movie. And I think the majority of people preferred Michael Keaton as Batman. maybe it's just me.

How many of you people have gone right back to look at parker when he first became spiderman. He's a nerd. He's scrawny. He's 17. He's in High School. And that is where the movie is set, where Parker BECOMES spidey, NOT in the 1990's or 2000's where he's muscular, married, twenty something, out of college. Get over it. Some of you are looking at it being a COMIC book, which it isn't meant to be. It's a movie. In the comics he can get away with all the afore mentioned stuff, but not in the movie because it's set around his origin. I could understand it if it was Spiderman 7 or something and he was muscley then, but not now. Tobey is the perfect choice, and so is Kirsten dunst. What Raimi has done is brilliant and all actors fit their roles perfectly. I don't see what everyone is complaining about. If you don't like what they've done, don't see the movie. Simple as that. Stick to the RECENT comics and cartoons where he's as muscley as the bloody Hulk.

yes he is too much of a shrimp to be spidey. after being bitten spidy is suppose to look like a gymnast. and if u have seen any of the olympic games a gymnast looks more toned out than a weight lifter. tobey is a toopick and has no intelligent ora about him any way. just when u thought mavel was getting there act together with X-men they have to go mess it up just like image did with spawn. when are they going to learn not to mess with the original story anyway?[LIST]

All those who believe that tobey is good should take a look at the comic. spidey is to have the build of a gymnast and a gymnast is usually as muscular or more so than a person who weightlifts. spidy is to at least be able to do a handstand and in reality or the movies somebody has to have a decent pair of arms. nothing will sve this movie. unfortunately for all the people who signed on it'll probably ruin their careers. oh by the way, parker became that muscular completely about a week after being bitten. before that he notice changes in his muscle tone and size. so to all those people who say " he was a scrawny nerd, and tobey is perfect" know your facts before u make anymore or previous stupid statements.

Seanthom, we're not looking at spiderman after being spiderman, we're looking at Peter Parker, nerd of the century, becoming a superhero. Peter Parker, before becoming spiderman, was an A-Class bookworm, never did any sports or anything like that, so don't go blowing yer friggin trumpert saying that he should be this and should be that, if you don't like how it's done, shut up and dont see the movie. You keep referring to spiderman being a muscular gymnast. YES he was that, but only in the comics and only after he'd been spinning the webs for a while! You can't have some muscle bound peter parker before becoming spiderman! what the hell kinda spiderman fan are you? I totally wrecks the Peter Parker character. He's supposed to be someone who gets picked on, not the one doing the picking! Geez man, check your head up.

Trist

And one more thing Seanthom, Peter parker doesnt turn into the gymnast you're saying he becomes after being bitten, I have the first six issues of spiderman, and the Amazing stories origin. Read up man, Untold Tales of Spiderman too. Think before you open your trap again man.

Sir, sorry to break this to you but, YOU ARE SO WRONG.

Tobey is perfect and is more so after his official signing on to the movie. Not only did he beef up for the role (per your "gymnast" rant) but he also researched the character fully. He probably took some time to train a little in gymnastics for the movie. But, think, did Peter EVER train in gymnastics? No, he simply developed a sixth sense, or many for that matter, for it. And, to be realistic, people (even irradiated ones) can't grow muscule (sp?) right away without exercise. It takes a lot of physical activity to look how Spidey does in the comics today. Heck, look at the Ultimate issue when Peter crushes Flash's hand. Not very big in that, is he? Defined? Yes. Overly muscular? No.

And to a previous post, that said Tobey looks too serious, I would have too agree that, yes, he does. But Peter is a serious guy (re: "With great power..."). It's not contridictory to be serious and crack-wise. Far from it. Most serious and/or sensitive people use wisecracking to, kind of, pull into themselves. It's easy to stop people from making fun of you if you make fun of yourself first. Try it and you'll see. Also, isn't Spidey the only hero with a bleeding ulcer? I think so.

To any others, please do some friggin' research before coming up with any other ideas. At least those will be based on fact.

I think Tobey will do a fine job so I won't cover everything thats already said. Other possible actors who could have played this part well would be Leonardo DiCaprio (love'em or hate'em, I think he is good at what he does, especially his character in the Beach), Ryan Phillipe (he can play a dork well, don't believe me, watch Antitrust, and he is built enough for the role of Spidey), Paul Walker (for those of you who have no idea who this is, he was in "The Fast & the Furious" and looks strikingly similar to Peter Parker in the face...

Well, it is always good to give people the benefit of the doubt.... Besides he was chosen by the director and since the director is concerned about the movie turning out great I am sure that he is making sure that his choice will work out..

Besides I saw a picture of Tobey on a magazine, and he looks like he has been working out!

Tobey Maguire is perfect as nerdy Peter Parker. he's also perfect to fill the Spidey suit (remember think svelete, if you want mr. muscle-man, then i think you'd better look into the Hulk). Spidey can kicked ***** and outsmart his enemies but is also witty and funny at the same time. and there were plenty of heartwarming momments too. so that's a pretty wide emotion range for a character and you'd better have a pretty good actor to do justice to the role, hence Tobey Maguire.

the entire cast is perfect, and the film is looking pretty good. the only gripe i have about this film is the release date. i still think releasing it in May is suicide.

I don't know if you saw the trailer but tobey isn't too wimpy or small to play spider-man. In the trailer after he gets bit and he wakes up in the morning. when he's looking in the mirror take a look he's pretty buff. besides the comic book spider-man wasn't huge he's flexible and athletic. and ben afflec would make a horible spider-man

Great to read that everybody is up in arms about an actor in a role in a movie that hasn't even been released yet. Wonder what will happen afterwards?
Must say I think Tobey will be able to pull his weight - funny look and all. And we all know that he will get the girl and save the world in the end, so what is the fuss about. I'm not so knowledgeable about the comics, so I don't know if he stays true to it, but I think it will be a great show on the big screen.

All you people are wrong if you think that Tobey will play a bad spider-man or that he doesn't look anything like peter. I'm not gonna dump all over this guy, but I have my doubts. I'll wait till I see the movie but I have to say that I thought at one time that Matt Damon (not Ben Affleck) would make a great Parker/Spiderman. Right height and weight, and if you saw The Talented Mr. Ripley, you'd know he can play the dorky role to perfection.
Dunst as M.J. is not bad, but who else is there? I can't think of anyone who DOES look like MJ.
Dafoe has the maniacal Goblin look down. Great actor too, so he should be great.
Can't wait!

it's funny how people we're against tobey in costume, but the shoots were made WHITOUT pads in the suit, and he pretty well looks spider-man , not too tall and with some muscles but not exagerated. besides there were some who said he didn't have the body for the hero... After the full lenght trailer, what do you have to say now??? I mean if you still oppose to tobey being spiderman using the same arguments then u r truly stupid. Let's not forget tha when in casual closes he doesn't look buffed (like spidey's ment to be...) but in his alter-ego he does show some physique.

as for Kirsten I had some doubts in the beggining but she kinda of grown inside me as Mary Jane and now I think she'll do fine (at the beggining I was hopping for that redhead (natural) who was the first option for the part (u know the one who played Alya (very well I might add) in Dune when she was a child...))

You people that think he has to be all buffed to be Spiderman are way off. Peter Parker was a science guy first, superhero second. Its his brains that gave him an edge. Tobey Maguire was standing in front of his mirror after he got bit by the spider and Dear Lord did he pack in some msucles. So if you do happen to see that commercial or if you did, you'll know what I'm talking about. This guy had to go through months of physical training just to do an hour and a half long movie made for the fans and movie go-ers. Spiderman IS Tobey Maguire.
Spiderman was made FOR Tobey Maguire. (uh maybe that's a little exag. but nonetheless, it's true :P)
Tobey Maguire's the cutest actor I've seen. :) He's just perfect for the job. and I LIKE his voice, it sounds...funny but cool :) anybody who disses him will have to answer to ME! -_-
I mean after you've seen the movie, remember that part where he caught MJ midair and she complimented on his blue eyes? and how he grinned? now, imagine that with Leornado (uh did I spell his name right? :\) or Freddie, or Affleck!!! it just wouldn't be the same :) Now THINK on that all you Tobey hater -_-

PS: I've seen the movie five times already and I still got excited everytime I go see it. and yes, I'll surely see it again just to see Tobey one more time :'{ and uh, I think Willem Dafoe's kind of weird.
My fav part?...when he first tried to crawl up the wall O.o it was so exciting! he looked hot :P and that scene was cool. but hey, mayb it's just me :P oh yeah, did you guys notice how he NEVER tried 2 crawl after the car chase? :\ kinda sad.

hmm, tobey is just a perfect guy for being Peter Parker. His emotions potrayed in this movie, was outstanding! No one could do it better / best than tobey maguire himself.

and you all know what, my fellow chatters, i hope that he is going to be nominated for the Academy Award! He missed the nomination for his outstanding play for 'Cider House Rules' i just hope he will be nominated for the coming awards.

people might said anything they desired about tobey playing Peter Paker aka spiderman, but all of it is just off base! see how the majority audience perceived the movie, it was superbs!!! collected millions of dollar in days...

whimpy or not whimpy, tobey has had to work very hard to become peter paker aka spiderman with his months of training to buff himsellf just to play 2 hours movie... that is something to commend!

he is a good actor!

ben affleck is going to be 'Daredevil' for his fans information! so i guess to give spiderman's role to somebody else than tobey maguire it would be a totally a big mistake... i hope that infuture tobey will remains as peter paker same goes with kirsten dunst as well...

originality of cast for coming coming sequels is very essential... if not the escent of the movie will be gone...

spiderman's fever is still spanning back here at Malaysia, where lots of the fan wearing red coloured clothes and attire...

spiderman's rules - forever -
tobey is just perfect!!!

sorry with the long msg...

- you're taller than you look (MJ)
- i hunch (PP)
- don't (MJ)

Peter Parker is supposed to be a loner and unpopular because it makes what he turns into even more exciting. It's like, you want to say "GO SPIDERMAN" when he starts kicking ***.

Tobey was the perfect part for the movie, because he has sensitivity and insight - and I would think that you would all be happy for the boy - he is the classic example of "rags to riches". He's the underdog that made good and I am very happy for him!

BTW, it doesn't matter if you take Tobey before or after his makeover for the Spidey part - he is hot and ALL women agree on that. ;)

Before the 'makeover' Tobey was REALLY cute rather than hot. Now with his new sexy body, he's HOT! :)
