I think Sony should have picked Jim Carey to do the role of Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin), as this villain was mentioned to be in the new Spider-Man film. What gets me is that they hired corny people, such as Tobey and Kirsten Dunst, to play Spider-Man/Mary Jane. I hope the movie does well but yet I hope they don't cut the characters off.

I personally don't think J.C. would make very good Norman Osborn. Possibly a great Green Goblin, but no Norman.
Jim Carrey would be perfect in a sequel as Mysterio though!

I'm sorry, but I don't think Tobey and Kirstin are "corny" actors/actresses. And, Jim already was "The Riddler," I don't know if he's ready for Marvel yet :o) hee hee!
Catch ya later!

I think Sam Raimi knows his stuff and having seen first hand the effort that Willem put into this role I beleive he is the perfect choice for the Green Goblin.
P.S He also even puts on the high pitched maniacal voice for his time as the goblin.

Metro Channel had an interview with Dafoe and when questioned about this film he seemed very proud to have developed the role of the Goblin.
And excited about his being invited to do it. But would not tell anything about the plot at all.

Don't misinterpret me or anything, I believe Jim Carrey is a funny man, but not the best actor. I mean, as the Riddler, Edward Nigma was in the movie for about five minutes and that's all she wrote. but in this movie, Norman doesn't become hooribly mutated in the first half-hour of the movie and you never see that side of the character again. Norman is a constant throughout the movie, and I don't think Jim is ready for a role like that. Defoe is a perfect pick in my estimation, and will give a great performance as the maniacal green Goblin.

I really like that this team is going with actors that have shown that they are adaptable to the role they are playing, instead of merely going with the most popular actors. At least someone has integrity towards comic book heroes - "Batman & Robin" is a great example of what can happen when you sell out on the orignal story, throw popular actors in tights, then try to make up for it with too much special effects and too many cheesy power-rangers-style fight scenes. I'm looking forward to the end product of this casting and directing team's efforts. I still wonder if there might have been better choices, but at least we know that this movie isn't going to be a cookie-cutter copy of all other comic-turned-motion-picture movies!

The only villain I can see Jim Carey being is Carnage. I mean, Carnage is a freakin psycho.

Personal, I think That William Dafoe is The BEST actor to play Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin. Who else has the look? No one. Who else has the laugh? No one.
And That My Friend, Is True!
No offence, but no one will take Jim Carey's role as Carnage seriously, no one took him seriously as the Riddler.

Willam Defoe will be really good, but the original actor to play him, John Malkovich, would have been just as good if not better.

Malkovich is a great actor, but LeeCadeBaron is right, Willem IS the Green Goblin.
Jim Carrey would put too much of a goofy spin on the Norman Osborne aspect of the Character. Every "Origin Of..." comic book movie needs a definative villian. I think Willem is going to be just a good a Jack was in Batman and Gene was in Superman.

Dude dafoe did such a good job he's very dark and an awsome actor we don't want to have another riddler acident jim would have done a good job but william rocks
John Malkovich. Hands down. Looks like Norman and can also play methodical psycho. Creepy how Dafoe's face looked more like the mask then Norman.

No, I think Willem DaFoe was perfect as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. And, I think that Jim Carrey wouldn't have made a good Green Goblin. He probably wouldn't be good for ANY super villian.

And That My Friend, Is True! Mark Hammil could possibly pull it off. And Jim Carey for Carnage is like Danny DeVido is for Penguin. Same thing with Vin Diesel playing Brock/Venom. But that's another thread....

Anybody notice the 2 plus year gap between christian_comics and supermanfan1990's posts?
Not to mention Spider-man hit theatres May 3, 2002. Also between those posts.
