Evil Dead 2 is great.
I'm glad that someone who has a love for film is making this movie.
And if you think that ED2 is just schlock horror and think Raimi can't direct, then see "A Simple Plan".

Too bad Cameron didnt take full control of this one. He is a perfectionist and we would be guaranteed a great movie. I still rank Aliens as one of my all time favourites. I dont know much about Raimi's movies but hope he can pull this through

Cameron???
Have you seen Dark Angel?
What a horrible load of ****. The only thing keeping that show on the air is the good looking chick.
Cameron is a good director. But completely overrated. Titanic was good. I will admit, but it wasn't all that great.
So forget Cameron...we have the best guy for the job already!!!

I havent really watched the Dark Angel series but I know when James makes movies for the big screen, the chances are they are gonna be winners. In fairness to Raimi, I have not seen anything from him. Hmm maybe i should go rent one of his flicks from blockbuster.

Sam Raimi is a perfect choice. His action sequence filming is remniscent of John Woo... which is really great for this type of film. Plus, he's a fan of the Spider-Man comics so he will definitely do justice to its history. I can't wait!
And the Evil Dead Trilogy is fantastic storytelling! And he hardly had a budget! Imagine how he'll do with some real money behind him!

Here are some of the movies that Sam has been involved in that you are bound to have seen:
For Love of the Game (chick flick)
A Simple Plan
The Quick and the Dead
The Hudsucker Proxy
Evil Dead Trilogy
Darkman
A Clockwork Orange
That's just some of the projects that he has been involved with. There are several more lesser know films and lots of TV shows that he has been a part of including Hercules, Xena, and some other big time stuff. This should give you an idea of some of the work he has put out. They are very diverse in styles.

I stand corrected. I confused A Clockwork Orange with a movie Raimi did simply titled Clockwork. Guess I got carried away. Thanks for pointing that out.

I admit I read the script by Cameron bud don't know the one Rami is pulling off, but I would agree that Sam Raimi is the ultimate choice for this movie. Not only because his angles and moves but for Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi and of course Danny Elfman who's doin' the music. Just think about who Cameron would have chosen, James Horner, Brad Fiedel? That thought gives me the creeps.

Sam Raimi is a wonferful person to have doing this -
remember that he started from scratch guys - he knows the industry inside and out - how to work all the equipment and he literally built himself up from scratch with his friends from college.
look at his credits sometime - you will see that he has spread himself far and wide throughout the industry.
I think, for someone who has managed to keep their inegrity and gain the respect of the industry without losing his vision and keeping with what he believes in.
Not to mention the fact that there a few people that I know who work for him that say he is a wonderful person to work with.
we've got a **** good director sitting on this.
best wishes for a successful launch Sam.

I love Evil Dead Two! Come on - it has awesome violence and a kick *** soundtrack! Flicks just don't get more enjoyable. A Simple Plan was good but I didn't know Sam directed it! So now it's settled, Sam Raimi was a good choice as Director of Spider-Man and Evil Dead Two kicked ***.

Raimi is awesome! Thank god Cameron didn't do it. I believe Raimi also made The Gift, which was well done- made me jump a few times- scary.

I really just think you have to respect both directors for their individual talents. Cameron would have done an excellent job because he knows what an action audiance wants to see without taking away from the need to have a good story. Sam Raimi has the know how, track record of good filmaking and a genuine love for the Web Slinger to take this project on with a touch of excellence. He loves Spidey too much to disrespect him.

Thanks for that shout out , you're talking to a fake shemp right here! I was an extra in For Love of the Game, filmed at Yankee Stadium. I'm one of the blurry people in the bg. hee hee. It was bleeping freezing when we shot that in Oct/Nov of 1998. We got paid, free breakfast and lunch and snack, plus a cool T shirt, and it was fun. A three week shoot just after the World Series.
I think Raimi's the man. he's gonna do a great job with this; I'm already impressed with the shots in the trailer.
As for For Love of the Game being a "chick flick", jbluna, I'm a woman and even though I'm IN the film I have never seen it all the way through because well, I can't stand Costner, and I don't much like Kelly Preston and the story wasn't interesting to me at all. Costner is just not sexy.
