first it crawls onto psiderman, then he rips it off and it goes onto eddie brock jr. and him and the symbiote together are called venom. theres also venom 2 and 3 but i cant recall their names right now

Technically the symbiote isn't an alien substance, its an alien lifeform. The ither Venom's (the mobster guy, and Scorpion) are just called Venom too. Its because anyone who bonds with the Venom symbiote is just called Venom.

Thanks! What I did to make this was find a great face McFarnele drew, and then draw a pose Spidey did in the behind-the-scenes movie book. I colored it then edited the black on Photoshop.

In Photoshop it took 13 layers to create the finished product.

First, you have to "treat" the original image. What I did was:

a. turn the image into an editable layer
b. using the lasso tool, trace the silhouette of Venom and reverse the selection to clear out the background.
c. use the lasso tool to select the tongue, gums, and teeth, then copy that into a new layer
d. trace the eyes, create a new layer

Secondly, using Illustrator I created the webbing in one layer, the "honeycomb" texture pattern on another layer, and the main spider on Venom's chest using the original image as a "template" layer.

Here's the layer breakdown in Photoshop:

Layer 1: black spider bkgd
Layer 2: radial blur (zoom option) of black spider, eliminate center area
Layer 3: red suit (use lasso tool to create 'tear effect', add drop shadow)
Layer 4: mouth (color the teeth and flesh areas)
Layer 5: duplicate layer and apply plastic wrap filter for "saliva effect"
Layer 6: skin (desaturate first, then color black)
Layer 7: duplicate layer 3 and apply plastic wrap filter for lighting effect
Layer 8: copy honeycomb texture pattern from Illustrator into Photoshop
Layer 9: copy webbing from Illustrator into Photoshop
Layer 10: eyes (desaturate color and make white)
Layer 11: reflection of Spiderman upside-down in Venom's left eye
Layer 13: red suit (copy section of layer 3 to cover hip area of Venom)

Not really. The picture is an actual SM3 pic, and anyone can do the same thing to the eyes. All you have to do is select them and then add a gradient.

I was using Photoshop.

You will need to download a plugin that allows you to create lightning (there are some around. Check Google).

Then I just played with the settings. Turned it from white to black, removed the flash and fiddled with the branching and jaggedness.

After that I just bevel/embossed them then added a texture to them.
I also did the thicker strands with the paintbursh, then bevel/emboss/texture again.

To make it loo better I selected his mask then copied it to another layer, desaturated it, then feathered it.

Yeah, it is from that book, and no I don't find it invaluable. It's a great starting point from what I've learned from it. Even though it doesn't necessarily look like nowaday comicbooks doesn't mean that it's not even worth looking at. That was how comics were first drawn and were improved on from there. I usually have trouble drawing unless I have the pictures of what I want to draw, and that book helped me greatly in improving on my weakness.

I'm sorry I think you don't understand the word invaluable. Webster defines invaluable as something extremely valuable; having value to great to measure; priceless. The tips and techniques in that book are still utilized even today and John Buscema was still doing comics till the day he died in that style and fashion. Of course there are many artists that don't use any sort of skill for proper storytelling in their art (Rob Liefeld comes to mind) and just try to do full page art. I been drawing for 30 years and I own the library copy of that book I checked out 25 years ago and still utilize that information. I know you may be young and certain words may escape your grasp of the English language, but use that book as the tool it was meant for and create something original using those techniques.
