I'm sure after that ending that left all the little "Disney-Cinderella-Brainwashed" teenage girls crying, there has to be a sequel. After all, we didn't come to the theater for a lesson in reality.
Having said that I loved this movie more than any other "hero" film I've seen in a long time. Sure Superman could fly, but it was always straight. Spider-man had a creativity about him that I haven't seen in any other superhero. Batman was mysterious, but Spider-man was mysterious and cute and safe. He was the perfect gentleman, but not a perfect hero. He was able to do aero-acrobatics, but still had his feet firmly planted on the ground (no pun intended).
There must be a sequel, for two other small reasons:
You have to add to the new soundtrack the Clasic Rock hit:
"Superman and Green Lantern (ain't got nothin' on me)" I'm sure that the network has the rights to those names already, being that they are also from Marvel Comics.
Also, what happened to the spider after it bit Peter? Did it die? If not, wouldn't it still be free to bite a lab technician? Maybe a female this time? With a little DNA from a black widow and a bite from this little renegade spider, you could have a whole nbew villain, "Black Widow". She seduces her prey and then devours them. Now Peter needs Mary Jane to protect him from the wiles of the Black Widow. Of course, the Black Widow's transition from human to spider-woman would have to be differnet than the first. You wouldn't want a sequel that was nothing more than an a ttempt to recreate the first blockbuster. Perhaps she gets caught in a cocoon of her own design and emerges as The Black Widow.
It's just a thought.
